20-Minute Homemade BBQ Sauce
I’m really excited to be sharing this Homemade BBQ Sauce recipe with you. It’s the simplest recipe and you most likely will have all the ingredients on hand. If you end up making it because you ran out of barbecue sauce and don’t want to go to the store or you make because you want to make something fresh and try a new recipe, either way you’ll love it.

Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil
¼ cup grated onion (use large holes on box grater)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon chili powder
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 ½ cups ketchup
¼ cup honey
¼ cup brown sugar (I prefer dark brown)
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon mustard (Dijon, preferably)
1 teaspoon sriracha
Instructions
In a medium saucepan heat oil over medium heat. Add onion and cook till soft, about 4 minutes. Add garlic powder, chili powder, cayenne pepper and stir, cooking till fragrant. About 30 seconds to 1 minute. Add ketchup, honey, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, mustard, and sriracha. Whisk together over medium low heat frequently till sauce comes to a simmer. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes, whisking frequently. Remove from heat and let cool before putting in an airtight container in the fridge.
Notes
Will keep in the fridge for at least 2 weeks.
Makes about 2 ¼ cups BBQ sauce.
