Rich and creamy peppered country gravy to serve over your favorite biscuits! Add a piece of this fried chicken and you’re going to have the best meal of your life.
½ cup butter
½ cup flour
2 tsp salt
1 ½–2 tsp pepper (to likeness)
4 cups of whole milk
In a 4-quart pot melt butter over medium heat.
Add the flour, salt, and pepper and whisk for 3-4 minutes until starting to brown.
Reduce heat to medium-low and in a steady stream, while continually whisking, add the milk.
Continue to whisk frequently till gravy starts to boil and desired thickness is reached.
Remove from heat and serve over biscuits or toast.
It’s really important to use whole milk in this gravy. In other gravy recipes, chicken/beef bouillon/broth is used to give it a rich flavor. In country gravy neither is used so having whole milk really adds the flavor and richness needed.
